Will Jeffords
Inducted 2010
Will was one of the very best offensive linemen in Waycross Bulldog annals. He was the leader of the offensive lines in 1980 and 1981. The 1980 team fashioned a 9-2 record and in 1981 the Dawgs went 14-1 winning the state class AAA championship.
He was a superb protector when Mike Cuneo or Todd Williams dropped back or rolled out to pass. Waycross had an awesome running attack those two seasons. Tony Taylor, James, Medlock, Ralph Herrin, Charles Green, and Carl Edwards all benefited greatly from the bruising and often multiple blocks that Will provided on each rushing play.
His speed was such that Coach Dale Williams would occasionally flank him out with a wide receiver to utilize his blocking prowess. The play generated great results even when it was a decoy. Coach Williams said of Jeffords, “he is a competitor, he likes contact and you can count on him blocking somebody on every play.”
Wills accomplishments progressed steadily throughout school. In middle-school he won the award as the Outstanding Offensive Lineman. As a sophomore he was voted Player of the Year on the Junior Varsity. He was accorded honorable mention status on the 1-AAA All Region Team in 1980. His senior accolades include: Florida Times Union Pres-Season Super 24, All Sub-Region Offensive Player of the Year, First Team 1-AAA All Region, and the Atlanta Journal All State Team.
Will is married to Mary Beth and their two children are Jacob and Rachael.
