Junie Hughley Fields
Inducted 2010
Junie was a catalyst and an integral member of Coach John Pike’s fabulous sextets for the seasons of 1972-73 and 1972-74. The first of these two teams forged a spectacular record of 17 wins and one loss.  That single defeat eliminated them for the 1973 state playoffs.

Not to be outdone, she helped lead the next edition of the bullogettes to a perfect season winning 22 games without a loss culminating in a state championship. It was the first state basketball title for Waycross High School.

She was selected to the All-State Basketball Team her senior year and earned a scholarship to Georgia Southern College which is not Georgia Southern University. The transition from half-court game with six players to a full-court format with five players went very smoothly for her. Her speed, agility, and quickness were great assets in the college arena as she once almost 50 points in a single game as a freshman.

Junie’s high school coach John Pike was extremely complimentary of his stellar point. He singled her out as the quickest girl he ever saw and the accolade was manifest each time she took the court.
