Joe Haluski

Joe was an assistant coach at Forsyth County High School in Cumming, GA and the head football coach at Harris County High School in Hamilton, GA before coming to Waycross High School in 1972 as the offensive line coach for Dale Williams in Dale’s first year with the Bulldogs.

Joe had a phenomenal career as the line coach from 1972 through 1993 football season. During his tenure the “Dawgs” won two state championships, one in 1977 and another in 1982. Also, five region crowns went into the trophy case in that period.

From 1994 through 2001 Haluski was an assistant football coach at Ware County High School.  After retirement, he coached football at Waycross and Ware Middle Schools from 2002 to 2008.

Versatility was Joe’s forte. He coached the Junior Varsity boy’s basketball team from 1972 until 1975. He led the varsity boys from 1975 through 1979. His overall record was 55 winds and 38 losses and he claimed a region 1-AA title in 1977. He was chosen that year as the 1-AA Coach of the Year.

Joe was the boy’s golf coach from 1979 until 1994 at Waycross. He took his golfers to 14 straight state tournaments from 1980 until 1993. In 1987, 1988 and 1989 his team finished third, fourth and second in the state tournament.

From 1996 until 2001 he was the boys golf coach at Ware County High School. He instituted the girls golf program at Ware County in 2000 and continued until 2008. He was the region coach of the year those same years. The Lady Gators were to six consecutive state tournaments from 2003 through 2008. They finished second in 2003, 2006 and 2008.  His protégé Erica Still was the State AAAA Champion in 2006.

Joe was honored as Star Teacher of the Year at Waycross in 1993 and Ware County in 2001.

Joe is very active at Central Baptist Church and is married to Dannette. They have two children Holly Jones and Jason Haluski.
