He was Captain of the first Waycross Prep School Team in 1910. He lettered in tennis at University of Georgia and was an excellent swimmer and lifetime sports enthusiast.
After graduation from University of Georgia, he entered Harvard Law School; from which he enlisted with his Harvard class in the U.S. Army for World War 1 service in Europe.
He was one of the organizers of the first Okefenokee Golf and Country Club. He was also a highly respected and well known local attorney.
