W.T. Cornelius

He was an outstanding Waycross High School football player and track participant. He lettered in football in 1936-37-38 and track the same year. He was a member of the 1939 cinder team that set a record for the school and state in the 880-yard relay competition that was never broken prior to discontinuance of the event. He earned a scholarship to the University of Florida. He competed in football and track for the Gators. Upon his return to Waycross, Cornelius gained employment with the ACL Railroad Company. He became a member of the Ware Democratic Executive Committee on which he served until his death. Cornelius and wife had two sons, Bill and Mike. Cornelius served with the South Georgia football Officials Association for several years.
