A.S. (Junior) Harrison

He is one of Waycross High School’s all time great football players.
He also won many honors in baseball, basketball and track for the Bulldogs. He was all SGFA in 1945 and 46. He was all state in 1946 when he set a school scoring record of 127 points and average 30 carries per game. He was an all state shortstop in 1946 and 1947, pitched a no hitter for Coach Vassa Cate’s Bulldogs in 1946. He hit .520 in 1947. In 1945-46 and 47, he ran the 100 and 200 yard dashes for Coach Cate’s track team and was anchor man on the mile relay team. He never lost a 100 or 220 match in a dual or district meet and placed in both in the 1946 and 1947 state meets.
He earned letters in basketball in 1945, 46 and 47.
He captained the football, baseball and basketball teams in 1946.
He attended Wofford College and lettered in football in 1947, 1948 and 1949. The team was unbeaten the last two years. He lettered in Baseball at Wofford in 1948 and 1949 and track in 1948.
Junior was named Valdosta’s outstanding opponent in 1946 after leading Waycross to a win over the Cats
