Waycross-Ware County Sports Hall of Fame

He was one of Waycross’ most outstanding amateur athletes who inspired many youths in their aspirations to attain excellence in athletics.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) football Squad in the early 1930s and later gained fame as a baseball and softball player in local leagues.
Before the local recreation department was established in 1949, he coached a midget baseball team. Later, he became a coach in the recreation department leagues and coached football and baseball teams at Wacona.
He established and coached teams at Waresboro. He also coach teams at Emerson Park and Crawford Street.
He and his wife, Everlee, were the parents of six children. All of their children played and earned letters in various sports at Wacona and Ware County High Schools. The daughters were outstanding members of the girls basketball teams at Ware County and each of the sons also won letters at either Wacona or Ware County.
His untimely death removed from the community one of its outstanding athletic performers, coaches and supporters.
