He is considered the most outstanding shortstop to ever wear the colors of the Waycross Bears in the Georgia-Florida Baseball League. He worked his way to the Major Leagues and performed for the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Phillies during his illustrious career. He began his baseball career with the Evansville, Ind. franchise in the Evangeline League and during his long career performed for Savannah, Waycross, Atlanta, Nashville, to the majors and back to Nashville. He then managed Gainesville and Leesburg in the Florida State league. He closed out his career with a brief stint back in Waycross in 1952. He was married and has two sons, Bill and Derek.
